Sobre mí

Ramiro Ruiz-Rosas is Associate Professor in the Chemical Engineering department of the University of Malaga and member of the TERMA research group. BsC and MsC in Chemical Engineering at UMA (2006). He joined group TERMA in 2006, focusing in the preparation of carbon fibers from electrospun lignin. He was awarded with a FPI grant (2007-2011) that financed his PhD studies, including two research stays at Penn State (USA) and UNL (Portugal). He got his PhD in Chemical Engineering in 2012 with the Thesis titled “Preparation of carbon and inorganic submicrofbers for Chemical Engineering Applications”, which was directed by Prof. Cordero and Prof. Rodriguez-Mirasol. Later, he joined MCMA group at Alicante University as postdoctoral researcher within an international research project for the development and functionalization of superporous carbon alloys for energy storage applications, which financed a research stay at IMRAM Institute of Tohoku University (Japan) during 2012. He won a ‘Juan de la Cierva’ Postdoctoral fellowship (2014-2016) for the preparation and modification of the surface chemistry of porous carbon materials for environmental protection and energy storage applications, and a ‘Juan de la Cierva – Incorporación’ research contract (2017-2018) for the development of sustainable porous carbon materials as catalysts for the production of biofuels.

His research interests include the preparation and characterization of carbon materials from lignocellulosic wastes. The obtained materials include activated carbons, electrospun nanofibers, monoliths, hierarchical porous carbons and nanostructured carbons. Some of these materials have been used as catalysts, electrocatalysts, adsorbents and electrodes in applications related to energy conversion and storage (fuel cell, supercapacitors, biofuels) and environmental protection (adsorption and abatement of pollutants in liquid and gas phase). He is especially focused on the development of kinetic models that allows the description of the performance of adsorbent, catalysts and electrocatalysts in steady state and dynamic systems, including the effect of heat, mass and diffusional constraints.
